It's not goodbye—it's just farewell for now

Disney Just Announced a Temporary Closing Date for This Iconic EPCOT Attraction

Disney World has been going through a lot of changes this year. From the permanent closure of MuppetVision 3D, Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America to the temporary shutdown of Big Thunder Mountain throughout all of 2025, the Happiest Place on Earth has kept fans and park-goers on their toes.
Disney’s latest announcement is proof that the park improvements aren’t over yet. Now, one of the most beloved attractions in EPCOT, and possibly in all of Disney World, for that matter, is closing—but just temporarily!

Which attraction is closing?
Spaceship Earth, EPCOT’s flagship attraction, will be temporarily closing as of Aug. 25, 2025. If you’ve ever been to Disney World and visited EPCOT, then you’ve certainly seen the attraction, which is located within the park’s legendary geosphere. The golf ball–shaped building is one of the most recognizable symbols in the park, and while Spaceship Earth will be closed, the geosphere isn’t going anywhere.
Why is Spaceship Earth closing?
Every now and then, Disney World attractions need a little bit of TLC, which is precisely why Spaceship Earth is closing. Disney Imagineers are giving the fan-favorite attraction a routine refurbishment. These updates will ensure Spaceship Earth can dazzle park-goers for many more years to come!
When is it expected to reopen?
If you’re planning your next Disney World vacation, you won’t have to wait long to visit the new and improved Spaceship Earth. The flagship EPCOT attraction is expected to reopen later this year, so park-goers can return to business as usual, enjoying the star-studded experience, which includes narration by Academy Award winner Dame Judi Dench and an orchestra conducted by Emmy winner Bruce Broughton.
How will it be different when it reopens?
So far, Disney has not announced any specific changes to Spaceship Earth. The goal is to give the attraction a routine refurbishment, which would preserve the essence and integrity of what already exists. More may be revealed while renovations are underway or once Spaceship Earth reopens later this year.
